The Design of Everyday Canada is inspired by Don Norman’s The Design of Everyday Things, a pivotal piece of literature in the user experience design field which I completed my undergraduate studies in at the University of Toronto and launched a career into within the technology industry. I’m Ji Won Jung, a first generation Korean immigrant, raised across western Canada, currently residing in Toronto. I hope to pursue a career in law.

Canadian politics is in dire need of refreshed optics. Its design, the way in which a user, the people, observe it and interact with it in accordance with its encoded meaning and directions and purpose, has become so convoluted and distorted that our nation’s political engagement (and consequently, democracy) is at stake.

To put more simply: politics is too confusing and it scares people away. The very people it is meant to serve.

This is my attempt at untangling the barrage of headlines, parliamentary sessions, backroom whispers, online discourse, and anything else relevant to bettering the everyday person’s understanding of Canadian politics. I pursue this goal with the aim to show people how things are supposed to be and how we can demand for better.

Think of this as a (hopefully) helpful tutorial to a complicated system. I want to help you learn how to play the game!
